The Biodiversity Data Infrastructure enables the following to be interoperated with data, documents and geographic information linked to biodiversity: Species of flora and fauna, the Habitats where they live and the major Sites for preserving biodiversity in Navarre.

An initiative has been designed by the Department of Rural Development and Environment in partnership with the public companies Gestión Ambiental, Viveros y Repoblaciones de Navarra y Trabajos Catastrales, which is open for collaboration with any person, organization or institution that may be interested.

The aim of this Data Infrastructure is to meet the needs raised by administrators and technicians, such as the demand for knowledge on the part of citizens in compliance with Act 27/2006, governing public access to environmental information, expressly including biological diversity, landscapes and open spaces among the elements that make up environmental information.

Likewise, the 2007/2/CE Directive, which establishes a spatial information structure in the European Union, also covers all those matters related to this initiative.

Lastly, the communiqué by the Commission “Halting the loss of Biodiversity by 2010 and beyond” (22/05/06) identifies the need to reinforce the basis of knowledge about biodiversity as a key element in preserving it.
